David Rendall Profile

  • Best-selling author of The Freak Factor, David Rendall shows audiences how embracing their flaws and uniqueness leads to greater success and fulfillment.

  • A former stand-up comedian and management professor, he holds a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership and a PhD in Psychology.

  • Rendall’s bold, engaging keynotes have inspired teams at Microsoft, AT&T, the U.S. Air Force, and other top organizations around the world.
  • As a child, David Rendall was told that he was a “very bad boy on the edge of too far gone” because he couldn’t sit still, be quiet, and do what he was told. Years later he used those so-called “negative traits” to his favor and became one of the world’s most memorable and entertaining keynote speakers on the topics of leadership and management.

Author of the best-selling book The Freak Factor, Rendall specializes in helping executives, entrepreneurs, and general audiences unlock potential in themselves and others by concentrating on what makes them unique. Unlike other thought leaders, Rendall focuses on finding and developing the hidden strengths in characteristics that may have been labeled by others as “problematic.” He prompts audiences to reflect on what it means to “be yourself” as he demonstrates just how often we cave into the pressure to conform, leading us to pursue mediocrity rather than flaunting our rarities – which may just be our most valuable assets.

Rendall’s clients have come from numerous industries and include Ralph Lauren, State Farm, the Australian Government, Microsoft, and the U.S. Air Force. He has spoken on every inhabited continent and was a professor of management prior to starting his own firm, the Freak Factory. He holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership, a Masters in Counseling Psychology, and is a former stand-up comedian.

Prior to becoming a Certified Speaking Professional, he was a leadership professor, stand-up comedian, and nonprofit executive.

    David Rendall's Speech Descriptions

Management and leadership keynote speaker, David Rendall challenges audiences to reevaluate the way we approach our so-called “weaknesses.” The author of the best-selling book The Freak Factor shows how we can unlock potential in ourselves and others by embracing our differences rather than trying to “fix them.” You will leave with a thorough understanding of how you can work your way to “exceptional” by honing your differences, leveraging your uniqueness, and resisting the social pressure to conform.

    The Freak Factor

Do you want more happiness, fulfillment, and energy? Do you want to dramatically improve your productivity and increase employee performance? Do you want to improve your relationships at work and at home?

Our parents, teachers, and managers have told us that if we want to succeed, we should find and fix our weaknesses. However, this is the wrong approach—because each weakness is also a strength. Find out how to create outrageous personal and professional success by amplifying flaws instead of denying them.

    Pink Goldfish 2.0

How do you become one of the few organizations or individuals that become extraordinary? It is crucial to stand out in a crowded marketplace, but true differentiation is increasingly rare.
Based on over 400 case studies, Pink Goldfish provides an unconventional eight-part framework for achieving competitive separation by embracing flaws instead of fixing them.

Oppositioning: One Surprising Strategy for Innovation and Differentiation

What can tiny houses, Spartan races, knuckleball pitchers, unibrows, Snapchat, and Minecraft teach us about creativity, innovation, and differentiation?

We all know that innovation and differentiation are essential, but developing and implementing truly unique ideas seems very difficult—and most fail to become more creative and distinctive. The solution is surprisingly simple.

This is an unusual method for finding unconventional ideas that will dramatically improve your ability to stand out and produce an endless supply of original breakthroughs. You’ll go from unconventional to unforgettable to unstoppable.

The Four Factors of Effective Leadership

Do you want to be a better leader? Whether you’re a manager, parent, teacher, coach, or board member, these four factors will help you improve your ability to lead others.

Each factor combines the wisdom of ancient philosophers, successful executives, and leadership gurus with common themes from scientific research—as well as examples from the lives of famous leaders and infamous failures.

The Freak Factor for Kids and Families

What’s wrong with your child? I’m serious. What do you wish you could change about them? Are they too loud or too quiet, too hyperactive or too lazy, too organized or too messy? You get the idea.

So, what should you do? Most parents think they should find and fix their child’s weaknesses. Unfortunately, this just leads to frustration and failure.

Your child’s weaknesses are actually the best clue to their strengths. Furthermore, building on their strengths—not fixing their weaknesses—is the best strategy.

Find out how to help your kids become more of who they are, instead of trying to turn them into someone else. Encourage them to be more different and more unique—not more average and more mediocre.

Do you want your children to be normal or different? Do you want them to be average or exceptional? Do you want them to be drones or individuals? This story shows kids how Dave discovered strength and success hiding inside of his weaknesses. It echoes the lessons of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Dumbo; the characterstics that make us weak and weird are the same ones that make us strong and unique. Instead of trying to eliminate our unusual qualities, we need to embrace them and amplify them.

The Freak Factor: Discovering Uniqueness by Flaunting Weakness
    Unleash your
    inner freak…
    and discover your unique potential.

interview or performance evaluation. Well, have you ever thought that the foundation of your
success might be found in that weakness? Are you embracing your inner freak, or are you
hiding it in order to conform and maintain the status quo?
David Rendall believes that amplifying your weaknesses is crucial for your success, and he
encourages you to do the same.

In The Freak Factor, David argues that what makes you weird also makes you exceptional
and what makes you weak also makes you strong.

Embrace your freak factor, and discover:

  • Greater personal happiness, fulfillment, and energy
  • More meaningful relationships with family and friends
  • Increased employee engagement and productivity
  • Better business strategy and marketing

Your greatest weakness is also your greatest strength. Find out how maximizing your freak
factor can transform your life, work, and relationships.
