Tom Bilyeu started his nutritional foods company Quest in his kitchen and grew it to a value of $1 billion in just five years. Bilyeu’s personal story is a living testament that anyone can build something much bigger than themselves with the right mindset and drive.

Bilyeu had spent several years serving as Chief Marketing Officer for a data loss company, Awareness Tech, but felt disenchanted with his life. When presented with the question of what he was truly passionate about, fitness and diet immediately jumped to his mind. He had lost 60 pounds himself and wanted to help a few of his family members who were morbidly obese do the same.

Bilyeu teamed up with two former co-workers who shared his vision and they began experimenting with nutritional bar recipes in his kitchen. After perfecting their recipe, they were turned down by every existing manufacturer and decided to build their own manufacturing equipment. With production finally solved, they reached out to the fitness community and influencers with thousands of free bars, winning over many nutritional celebrities who helped grow the brand’s recognition via social media, bringing the company to $10 million in e-commerce by their second year.

Today, Bilyeu aims to use his experience to drive existing and aspiring entrepreneurs to solve the world’s biggest challenges. Rather than using his millions of dollars from his Quest success to buy a private island and retire, Bilyeu and his wife Lisa founded the media company Impact Theory to build community and scale cultural impact.

  Tom Bilyeu is a unicorn entrepreneur who co-founded and built Quest Nutrition from nothing to a billion dollar business in just 5 years – all without outside funding. He is a filmmaker and serial entrepreneur who chased money HARD for nearly a decade and came up emotionally bankrupt. He realized that the struggle is guaranteed, but the money is not, so you’d damn-well better love the struggle.

  To that end, he and his partners sold their technology company and founded Quest Nutrition –a company predicated not on money, but rather on creating value for people. The company mission was to end metabolic disease –one of two pandemics facing the planet. Despite not being focused on money Quest exploded, becoming a billion dollar business in roughly 5 years, making it the 2nd fastest growing company in North America according to Inc. Magazine.

  After exiting Quest and generating extraordinary personal wealth, Bilyeu turned his attention to the other pandemic facing society –the poverty of poor mindset. To solve the mindset problem at scale and help hundreds of millions of people adopt an empowering mindset he has co-founded the media studio, Impact Theory with his business partner and wife, Lisa Bilyeu. Their aim is to influence the cultural subconscious by building a single-minded content creation machine that makes exactly one type of content –content that empowers people. If Disney created the most magical place on earth, Impact Theory will be creating the most empowering place on earth.
