One of the world’s leading authorities on collective intelligence, Dr. Lior Zoref is the author of the best-selling book, Mindsharing. In the last decade, he has pioneered ground-breaking research on thinking and decision-making in the era of social networks.
A passionate speaker who has presented at Google, MIT Media Lab, Columbia University, The White House, Nike, Microsoft and LinkedIn, Dr. Zoref shares his fascinating insights on how both individuals and organizations can effectively use “mind sharing” to make smarter faster decisions and innovations.
Dr. Zoref rose to international prestige when he gave the first ever crowd-sourced TED Talk in 2012. In one of the most memorable presentations in TED history, he demonstrated how crowd intelligence can surpass individual intelligence by marching a live ox onto the stage and asking the audience to submit guesses regarding the animal’s weight online in real time. Zoref then calculated the average, which turned out to be just 3 pounds short of the ox’s actual weight.
Trained as a computer scientist, Dr. Zoref worked at Microsoft for 14 years, serving as vice-president of marketing for consumer and online services. He became interested in the idea of “crowdsourcing” after hearing the story of a New York mother who saved her sick son’s life by posting photos of him on Facebook after her family doctor had incorrectly dismissed the boy’s illness as strep throat. Inspired by his own social media networks to turn his fascination with mind sharing into a career, he left Microsoft to earn a Ph.D. from Bar-Ilan University in the area of crowdsourcing.
Dr. Lior Zoref is a researcher, keynote speaker, advisor and author of the bestselling book, Mindsharing – the art of crowdsourcing everything. Mindsharing has been translated to many languages and was listed by Inc. Magazine as one of the best books for entrepreneur leaders, along with books by Richard Branson, Elon Musk and Tony Hsieh.
Dr. Zoref gave a talk at TED in Long Beach California and has been invited to speak at some of the world’s most innovative organizations, including The White House, Nike, Google, MIT Media Lab, Microsoft and LinkedIn where he shared the stage with figures like Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jeff Bezos and more.
Dr. Zoref worked for fourteen years at Microsoft. His last role was vice president of marketing for consumer and online services. He earned his PhD in the area of crowdsourcing from Bar-Ilan University. He lives in Israel, married and a proud father of 3 kids.
In the first ever crowd-sourced TED talk, innovation keynote speaker, Lior Zoref explores some surprising ways we can harness social media to improve our lives. From a pastor who has boosted his church attendance through crowdsourcing ideas for the Sunday sermon to a mother who saved her four-year-old son's life with a Facebook update, Zoref demonstrates how our unprecedented connectivity can "supercharge our thinking in every aspect of life."
Zoref explains that when we open up our thought process to friends on Facebook or Twitter, we literally "upgrade our brain." However, crowdsourcing your mind is not a one-way street, he cautions.
“You need a healthy digital relationship with your crowd," he explains. "You can’t just ask questions, you need to give value, listen, respond — tell people they matter."
Most organizations and people have one or multiple social media accounts, but few are tapping into the full potential of their online networks. Crowdsourcing expert and pioneer researcher, Lior Zoref shares how we can upgrade our brainpower and make quicker, wiser decisions by harnessing the power of our virtual base, or as he calls it, “mind-sharing.” Drawing from a diverse collection of real-life examples, he illustrates proven techniques that will allow you and your organization to innovate and problem-solve in record time.
