Larry Huston's speaking fee falls within range: $30,000 to $50,000
Larry Huston is the former Vice President of Innovation, Procter & Gamble and the father of the Connect + Develop business model. Under Larry’s watch, P&G began to source 50% of its innovation externally, collaborating with organizations and individuals around the world, to systematically search for proven technologies, packages and products they can improve, scale up, and get to market fast. While at P&G, Larry also created the CEO’s Innovation Leadership Team and piloted the effort to implement a transnational innovation model at P&G, which led to a dramatic reduction in global launch speeds around the world.
Currently, he is taking his Connect + Develop model to businesses around the world through his innovation and growth consulting firm, 4iNNO. He is particularly focusing on creating and implementing new Innovation Operating Models with CEOs in developing regions such as Latin America and Southeast Asia.
Since 2007, he has taught the executive course “Innovation for Growth: Strategies for Creating Value” at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School’s Mack Institute for Innovation Management. Larry has twice received the Wharton School’s Industry Leader Award.
Larry is the Managing Director of 4iNNO, a leading consultancy on Open Innovation. 4iNNO also creates $1+ billion growth platforms for client companies.
He has created a new model of Innovation that is being adopted by hundreds of companies around the world. In the popular business press, it is referred to as Open Innovation and at Procter & Gamble where Larry created this revolution, it is called Connect + Develop.
Larry’s unique approach to Innovation has been presented in the Harvard Business Review, CNBC, hundreds of magazine articles, and top-selling business books such as Mavericks at Work and Wikinomics.
A Wharton Fellow, Larry teaches innovation at Wharton′s Mack Center for Technological Innovation at the University of Pennsylvania.
Larry is in high demand as a consultant and speaker and he is assisting CEO’s to Reinvent Growth through Innovation and to date, has assisted over one hundred companies from the US, Europe and Asia to adopt this new model.
Larry Huston stresses the benefits of “connect and develop” over “research and develop.” The veteran innovation officer points out that one of the biggest mistakes companies make in their quest for innovation is boxing themselves into their own company.
Drawing from his successes at Proctor and Gamble, he argues that connecting with people outside your company gives you an exponential increase in the number of ideas. Noting that no one company contains “all the talent in the world,” Huston defines “connect and develop” as “understanding our consumers, understanding the jobs that we need to do, and leveraging the best ideas in the world combining what we know inside with what people know on the outside.”
Father of the Connect + Develop model or Open Innovation Model, Larry Huston discusses the big disconnect between tech companies and consumers and how it can be resolved. Many times companies get so caught up in following an engineer’s vision that they fail to look outside the organization to discover if that vision is compatible with customers’ needs.
“Innovation is two major pieces. What’s needed from the consumer and what’s possible from the technology,” Larry states, citing the Segway as one of many great inventions that unfortunately, is not consumer driven and has no market.
In addition to being a trusted advisor to many leaders of Fortune 50 companies, Larry Huston is also an accomplished international keynote speaker.
Larry’s performances are fast-paced, visual presentations with multiple examples of relevant material. His Q&A segments are especially valuable as he has practical, global R&D experience - as he was immersed in the branding culture at Procter & Gamble for many years. He responds from a “been there, done that” perspective. Larry is consistently ranked as one of the top speakers at a conference where multiple speakers present - often times ranked number one.
Larry’s material is fresh, relevant and cutting edge. His speaking engagements have included the Fortune CEO event (where he ranked #1), American Marketing Association keynote, the World Profitability Forum in Sao Paulo, Brazil and the CSC (Computer Sciences Corporation) Executive Exchange.
