Vinh Giang’s passion for magic and self-taught business skills lifted his family out of poverty and into a top tier income bracket. An award-winning entertainer, international speaker, and entrepreneur, he is the co-founder and director of the Encyclopedia of Magic, an online magic school that instructs over 41,000 students per year. Additionally, he is the CEO of Luminary Productions, where he coaches a select few businesses and leaders, teaching them how to compete on an emotional level.
The son of Vietnamese refugees, Giang learned from his parents to take adversity head on. His father worked double shifts at a factory, while his mother and her sisters dedicated every available inch of their yard to farming, so that they could earn extra money selling produce to local supermarkets. Giang quickly embarked on his own ventures, buying things on e-Bay, selling them to classmates for twice as much, and contracting school bullies to collect payments from any customers who owed him money.
Just six months short of completing a degree in accounting, Giang decided to take a leap of faith and do the scariest thing he could imagine; he told his parents that he was giving up school to pursue a career as a magician and entrepreneur. Needless to say, his father was not happy that his son wanted “to be Harry Potter,” but after three years of hard work, Giang’s magic tutorial website began to take off, winning him the prestigious South Australian Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2013. The business has since joined forces with 52Kards, a leading U.S. based online magic school. Together the the two organizations will instruct an estimated half a million students per year.
In recent years, Giang’s speaking career has exploded due to his unique ability to seamlessly interweave the principles of magic, business, and success. He currently spends 80% of his time travelling from continent to continent performing and presenting one-of-a-kind business keynotes about building confidence, boosting presentation skills, facing fears, problem-solving, and pushing limits.
With only 6 months to graduate, Vinh Giang left his degree in commerce and law to become an online magic teacher ultimately building a hugely successful online business, 52kards, which now serves over 800,000 students all around the world. Vinh Giang’s real magic journey began when he finally understood what Robert Houdin (an amazing magician) meant when he said: “A magician is an actor playing the part of the magician.” Once Vinh understood the meaning behind this quote, he focused all his energy on studying the art of performance and not the art of presentation. The Story of Vinh’s Business
In 2011, Vinh was doing work experience in an accounting firm, and he absolutely hated the job. He was in university not because he wanted to study accounting, but rather he was there because “it was the right thing to do”. He had only 6 months left to go in his degree when he really couldn’t stand it any longer! He knew that once he finished his degree, his family would pull some strings and get him to work in one of the big accounting firms, which really scared him to death. So he built up the courage to quit! And the rest… well, the rest is history now.
He decided that he was going to build an online business teaching magic, combining two of his biggest passions in life: teaching and magic. Teaching was his first preference going into university, but he switched it last minute because he knew that being an accountant was more desirable in his community. Building an online business teaching magic just seemed perfect to him, as he was able to combine two of his biggest passions: teaching and magic. He started the journey with the help of his father who was his only investor and lost everything.
