Sam Parker, Leadership Expert: Speech Excerpt, East Carolina University

Leadership keynote speaker, Sam Parker redefines the idea of work, challenging us to take our awareness of what we do and why to new heights. Speaking candidly, he admits there are no “silver bullets” to raising performance and morale at an organization; rather this involves a concerted effort on the part of leaders and team members every day.

Quoting a dictionary, he reminds us that work is “an activity in which one exerts strength or faculties to do or perform something. Work is a sustained physical and mental effort to overcome obstacles and achieve an objective…Work is contribution. Work is care.” Parker urges people to pay attention to details, because often it is the small but brief cordial interactions with employees and customers that can make the difference between adhering to ordinary vs. extraordinary standards.
